There is going to be and has always been a large debate as to what is the best type of model car. The hard answer is it all depends on the person. With that being said however, diecast model cars have been and continue to be very popular amongst all age groups.
What piques your interest?
The first question you have to ask yourself is: what are you interested in? As humans, we all have different tastes; there are no two tastes that are the same. This is why you have a lot of different variations of toys and models in your local model cars shop. What one person might like, another may not feel is that important.
What do you want to do with it?
The next question you want to ask is: what do you want to do with your diecast model cars? Some people want to take them and collect them. These people will keep their item in a box on a shelf. Then there are some that will take them out of the box and create staged scenes that will put them into a new light.
From there, we have people who just like cars and want to play with them. These are the people who don’t really see the monetary value to them in the future, but rather want to create experiences and memories. This doesn’t mean that the collectors don’t do the same thing, but they do it in a different way.
Just enjoy it
No matter what you do or where you are, a good model cars shop will have everything that you need to start your collection. When you visit, don’t feel rushed to make a decision or feel you need to purchase everything. Collections typically start slow and will move up from there. See what speaks to you and then your collection will start to build itself.
Tradeshows
For the die-hard collectors out there, you may want to consider going to trade shows as well as your local store. At these trade shows you can meet up with people who are also interested in diecast models. There will be people that have private groups and communities that they will turn you on to as well as have collections that they might want to share or trade.
Kids
If you want to start a collection you might want to get your kids involved as well. When we make these events a family thing, we begin to learn a lot more about the sport than we would have otherwise. Also, spending time with the kids can be a great bonding moment as well.
For kids, collecting these cars and models is great as well. It teaches them responsibility and gets them interested in doing their own research and exploration. These skills are great to have later in life when they need to research papers for school or work.
Getting Started
Getting started is easy. You just need to decide on one single piece for your collection, find it and buy it. Now you are a collector.
